ONWARD AND FORWARD
Scott Bartlett, State Chairman

First of all, I want to thank each of you for the work you did in
helping to place Steve Willis on the ballot. I am also grateful to Steve for stepping up to the plate and helping us out in maintaining ballot status for the next four years. Running for office takes time, energy and money. I would encourage each of you to dig deep and be as generous as possible to help get our message out. This is a first time for the Constitution Party of South Dakota to get our message out through a Governor’s race. This is EXCITING!

We are planning to hold seminars each month leading up to election day. I look forward to seeing many of you at our State Convention and at other seminars and meetings. John Eidsmoe will be speaking to us in June and Steve Pratt has expressed a desire to return to South Dakota and give his latest presentation. We are working on a couple other ideas and would entertain any thoughts you may have regarding a seminar or presentation.

This is an exciting year for the Constitution Party of South Dakota.
Let us move forward with increased speed and determination!

OUR FOCUS
Steve Willis, Vice-Chairman and Candidate for Governor

Many thanks to all the workers who got us into the Governor’s Race. I will carry you and your work on my heart while on the campaign trail.

At the moment, I feel like Moses when God called him to go down to Egypt to deliver the people. In Exodus, Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” Later he said, “O my Lord, send I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.” In other words, send someone else.

But God’s encouragement to Moses was, “And the Lord said unto him, who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy, mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.” As we go foreward into the heat of the campaign, I claim this promise from the Lord.

We ask for your prayers and support. We are all on the battlefield in
this, and let us have a heart to win and an infatigueable spirit to follow through. Here are some of the concerns and issues, I plan on dealing with in our campaign:

1) IMMINENT DOMAIN -
The 4th Amendment states, “The right of the people to be secure in their houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause. . .” Freedom means the right to keep private our personal papers, books, and property. In this day and age where cattle are tagged, private property seized, financial records investigated, and people thrown out of their homes for environmental reasons, I take a strong stand to protect the persons and property of South Dakota’s citizens from any federal or bureaucratical violation.

2) PUBLIC EDUCATION
The 10th Amendment of the Constitution states, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” The Federal government has limited powers, yet it has ursurped power over the educational system which is strictly forbidden by our Constitution. Now, we see the result of a Federally funded and controlled educational system. I endorse a return to local control of an Educational system that recognizes the rights and responsibility of parents.

3) IMMIGRATION
The problems with immigration, not only illegal, but legal immigration as well, is having its toll on America. Innumerable burdens, financial, social, economical, medical, and spiritual, are being placed on our country because of the lack of dealing with this problem rightly according to our Constitution and laws. Here I quote Teddy Roosevelt:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." -Theodore Roosevelt 1907
