BUSY WITH DISTRACTIONS
Steve Willis, Vice-Chairman

Change is an inevitable part of life. When it comes to my country, the good o’le USA, I am just a little old fashioned. New things, like PDA’s, cell phones, computers and the internet, I do not mind change, if it is for the better. New things are often great and can make life easier, but the fundamental principles of life and liberty do not change. Do all the conveniences and pleasures of life fascinate us so much that we are distracted from things that really count like freedom, responsibility, and accountability?

America has relaxed and taken for granted it’s freedoms Many are too busy doing all the neat things to care about the future of their children, friends, or relatives. Our slack has brought about a change in our nation. I remember the days when a student would be expelled for cursing or truancy and now one can get expelled for bringing the wrong implement to school or even reading the Bible at lunch. I remember when drugs were illegal in school and a student had to go to the nurse to get an asprin. Now they pass out drugs to keep untrained children docile rather than disciplining and teaching them to control themselves.

Once I was outspoken to my teacher and ended up getting a spanking. It brought me into line with the reality that I was the one being taught and not the teacher. I also remember when people had self-respect and cared how they looked instead of dressing like trash and being a spectacle. It used to be safe to leave the door to the house unlocked or the keys in a car. We knew our neighbors and most of the business men in the area. Yes, we have had a change, a radical one and now without another radical change, America as we knew it, will never be. I just wonder what our children will remember about their past, their parents, and grandparents and what we did for their future.

As a whole, Americans have been a giving people. We have helped people in need, the Tsunami victims, Iraqi children, and many others. Why our Country has been sacrificial is because of her people that fear and respect GOD. Because our God is a giving God.

Now many in our great nation do not even know our God, the God of our Forefathers. By looking at the writings and quotes of many of our Forefathers, we can know who their God was. “In God We Trust” engraven on all our money, was not an empty statement. Our Forefathers wrote what they believed and thought. They also put it on all the main Government buildings. Although they were not perfect, they did have an understanding of many things that people seem to ignore today. Perhaps they had less distractions from what was important. Certainly, George Washington did not waste time watching sports on TV or even documentaries. He was busy making history and leading a fledgling continental army to victory and nationhood.

What about John Jay or Ben Franklin, or Thomas Jefferson, or many others who took the time to discuss and develop a Constitution for a new nation. There were also common people that helped our country become a nation. They were not distracted by radio, TV, cell phones, or computers. There were probably other things that attempted to gain their attention away from freedom and principles, but they too had to not allow other things distract them from building a free nation.

My challenge to you today is two-fold: 1) Do to not allow the distractions and business of living keep you from fighting for the freedoms of our country. 2) Do not be afraid to change, if change is for the better.

* Steve Willis is starting a monthly newsletter sent by e-mail. In order to cut cost, we would like to send these via e-mail. So if you have not already gave us your
e-mail, please send it to us. We will honor it. Those who do not have an e-mail will receive theirs by mail. 605-334-4241

* Our candidate for Govenor will be announced in the next newsletter.

ACTION GOALS

* Get registered!! If you are still not registered as Constitution Party, please go to the court house and register pronto! We need 250 Constitution Party registered voters to sign the petition for Govenor. This is extreemly important since if we do not have a candidate with the required votes, we will lose the position of being a Party.

* Run for office. It would be great to have several Constitution Party Members running for office. We may not win, but the more we are exposed, the more recognition we will receive. April 4th is the deadline. Positions to run for:

Govenor (a must) 250 petition signatures
US Representative 250 petition signatures
Secretary of State 250 petition signatures
State Senate (district) 5 district signatures
State Legislature (district) 5 district signatures

* Inform others about a better choice. If we stood for what we claim to believe, righteousness and godliness in life and government, the Constitution Party would be flourishing. Do we really believe what we say with our mouth, or is it just empty words? There are those out there who really do believe in Truth, righteousness, godliness, and honesty, to the point of change and action, we need to let them know that the Constitution Party is here.
